Book Traveling Thursdays #1

Yes, it is as bad as it seems.

I am absent.

Absent minded, distracted, fully occupied and no time for blogging. I do try to read. It does appear as if I've fallen victim to the age old disease of Headless Chicken syndrome. I am running around with my head on the block(g), but my body is constantly elsewhere.

But I really, really, really want to start doing the Book Traveling Thursdays weekly feature. Let's see if I can do this without my head...

I can still manage to copy/paste, so let's have a look at what Danielle and Catia have to say about this meme. Danielle and Catia are the two lovely moderators over at the Goodreads group. (I know they're lovely - you can see their photos on Goodreads!) Should you wish to participate, just follow these easy 1,2,3 block(g) myself steps:

    Book Traveling Thursdays
  1. Pick a book. At the beginning of every month, a list of themes will be posted. All you have to do is choose a book that fits that theme.
  2. In your blog post, include an explanation of why your chosen book fits the theme.
  3. Look at covers from multiple editions and multiple countries for the book you chose.
  4. Be sure to tag your posts with booktravelingthursdays so we can all see each other's posts. (Link back on the Goodreads Group)
  5. In your post, include the the following:
  • The original cover
  • The cover from your country (if there are multiple covers from your country, include them all)
  • Your favorite cover
  • Your least favorite cover
This week's theme is: A book every book lover should read (see why I really needed to start this meme today?). My choice for this week is:

Why??

Very simple answer. The Shadow of the Wind is the first book in a series called The Cemetery of Forgotten Books. No book should ever be forgotten and seeing that this is a cemetery, some of these books might be frighteningly close to being just that. Thus, all Book Lovers should read this one to make sure it doesn't die forever.

Okay, I might be making that up as I go along. Just remember, my head is on a block(g), there might be a glitch or two.

The Cemetery of forgotten books is a well-hidden library somewhere in Barcelona. There Daniel finds a mysterious book entitled The Shadow of the Wind by one Julian Carax. When Daniel sets out to find the author's other work, he finds out that someone has been systematically destroying every copy of every book Carax has written. In fact, Daniel may have the last of Carax's books in existence. Soon Daniel's seemingly innocent quest opens a door into one of Barcelona's darkest secret. This book is an epic story of murder, madness and doomed love involving some of the best characters I've ever came across in the Literacy world.

The cover that I've listed is the one that I've read in Paperback format. I'm from South Africa and the original cover was not available here in sunny SA. The cover I've listed is my favorite one. The original US cover:

628036

The Shadow of the Wind has been translated from the original Spanish to a number of languages and the following covers are also available:

184834 9529 3328617 6536956

The lamp post seems to be quite popular on all the covers. I love ALL books with lamp posts. If there's a wardrobe as well, I'm sold.

My least favorite one has to be this cover:

984352

Thalk to me!
